Julie Klassen’s The Bridge to Belle Island

I love Julie Klassen’s books so I’m thrilled that I will be starting my new book review blog with her latest book, which comes out December 3, 2019.

She’s one of the few authors whose book I buy without even reading the back. Just in case you haven’t read the description on the back, this books is about Isabelle, a lady of social standing who lives on a beautiful small island on the river Thames. The island makes for a beautiful setting and the descriptions are rich with detail. It’s very easy to picture oneself on Belle Island as one gets lost in the love story of Isabel and a London lawyer, Benjamin. These characters are very realistic, flawed people who have issues they must overcome. Their growth as individuals and as a couple is truly central to the plot.

Speaking of the plot, Ms Klassen has given us a treat with a murder mystery. There are many unexpected twists that even the most avid mystery readers won’t be able to forsee. It makes for a real page-turner. Benjamin is tasked with investigating whether or not his firm’s client, Ms Isabel, could be involved in a murder. You’ll be sucked into the story just as Benjamin is sucked into the mystery that surrounds Belle Island and her mistress. You really don’t want to miss out on this book if you are a Klassen fan, or if you enjoy clean, historical romances with a Jane Austen type flair.
